A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance; it is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

Today, many of our patients prefer the option of a dental implant when replacing a missing tooth.  However, there are times when a fixed bridge may be a simpler and more cost effective option.

There are several types of bridges.  We will discuss the best options for your particular case.  Traditionally bridges were made of gold.  However, the majority of patients today prefer tooth-colored restorations.  Recent advances in ceramic technology have made it possible to place a highly esthetic all ceramic bridge to replace missing teeth.

All fixed bridges consist of at least  two crowns which are placed on the teeth adjacent to the space.   These crowns are used to support the crown or crowns which will replace the missing teeth. Dental bridges are a highly durable, highly esthetic option for replacing missing teeth.

Reasons for a fixed bridge:

  • Fill space of missing teeth.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

What does getting a fixed bridge involve?

Getting a bridge usually requires two or more visits.  While the teeth are numb, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing a portion of enamel to allow for a crown.  Next, a highly accurate impression (mold) is made which will be sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge will be fabricated.  In addition, a temporary bridge will be made and worn while the final bridge is being made.  At the second visit, your permanent bridge will be carefully checked, adjusted, and cemented to achieve a proper fit.
