A diastema is a gap between two permanent teeth. These gaps are often developemental,
resulting from a single undersized tooth or the overall relationship of the size of the teeth
to the size of the jaw. In some cases they can develope as a patient ages.
These gaps are easily correctable. The photos above are an example of direct
composite restorations. These tooth-colored fillings can be bonded directly to the
teeth in a single appointment and, in most cases, without the use of any anesthetic. In
some cases, where the gaps are much larger, porcelain veneers or crowns may be
recommended. Several additional cases using both these techniques are shown in our
smile gallery.
